
11 Egyptian airports obtain health accreditation certificate from ACI

Despite the continuation of the negative repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic during 2021, especially on the international aviation sector, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and all its companies were able to overcome the crisis and even achieve many achievements under the leadership of Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar.

A total of 11 Egyptian airports won the health accreditation certificate by the Airports Council International (ACI), proving the efficiency of Egyptian airports and their ability to deal with the pandemic that badly affected the travel movement to the extent that some international airports closed their doors against passengers and thus Egypt became one of the most countries at the level of Africa and the Middle East in the number of airports that obtained this certificate.
Cairo Airport Company headed by Magdy Ishaq also obtained the Integrated Management Certificates as a re-grant for the second time from the international SGS company for a period of three years in quality, environment, occupational safety and health.

In 2021, the Quarantine Department at Cairo International Airport, headed by Hazem Hussein, also began implementing new procedures for arrivals, represented in the obliging passengers coming from areas affected by the new coronavirus variant to a medical examination through “IDNow” devices, which are the latest coronavirus examination devices.
Cairo International Airport also witnessed the development of the left corridor for the airport on the axis of Joseph Tito. The middle corridor was also developed. Also, the passenger movement was linked to Cairo airport inside the airport buildings through an electric treadmill to transport the passenger between Terminal 2 and the multi-storey garage and Terminal 3.
The capacity of the belt system, which is currently being implemented in two stages, has also been raised to accommodate 12,000 bags per hour a year from now, compared to 4800 bags currently.
As for Sphinx airport, the year 2021 witnessed an increase in efficiency and an increase in its capacity from 300 passengers per hour to 900 passengers in order to be ready for the opening in parallel with the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Russian tourism returns to Sinai after a 6-year hiatus
The year 2021, specifically on August 9, witnessed the resumption of air traffic between Russia, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, after a pause that lasted 6 years.
A contract was also signed to obtain a loan for the development of St. Catherine airport and the construction of a new building to raise the airport’s capacity to 600 passengers per hour to serve the tourist area in St. Catherine, in addition to developing the current corridor of the airport.
As for El Alamein airport, which is integrated with the state’s plan to support the tourism and civil aviation sector, work is being done to transform it into a smart international airport that relies on the latest technology and contains all services.
EgyptAir wins the Arab Charitable Award

The year also witnessed the first steps to implement the restructuring project of EgyptAir, where the general assemblies of the subsidiaries of the Holding Company, headed by pilot Amr Aboul-Enein, approved the project prepared by the Central Agency for Organisation and Administration.
EgyptAir also won the Arab Charitable Award presented by the Arab Council for Social Responsibility in recognition of its distinguished role in the field of sustainable development.
Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar also inaugurated the new duty-free branch of the EgyptAir Tourism Company (Karnak) and duty-free shops in the tourist walkway in Hurghada.
The new EgyptAir office was also opened in Doha, which includes a telephone service centre equipped with the latest technologies that will provide all travel and reservation services.
EgyptAir also succeeded in concluding many agreements and contracts during its participation in the activities of the Dubai Air Show, including a co-operation protocol with OEMServices in the field of providing various spare parts units for the fleet of EgyptAir.
The contract was signed by Pilot Amr Nabil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EgyptAir Airlines, and Didier Granger, CEO of OEMServices.
Also, EgyptAir and Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, signed a memorandum of understanding that includes strengthening cooperation in the field of codeshare between the two carriers.
Also, EgyptAir Company for Maintenance and Engineering, led by Engineer Hani Salah El-Din, signed a contract with the Kuwaiti Jazeera Airways Company to provide daily maintenance services for Jazeera Airways flights in 6 Egyptian airports.
The company also signed an agreement to provide various technical services for the aircraft of Jordan Airlines.
EgyptAir Hospital
As for EgyptAir for Medical Services, its head Ayman Salah witnessed the renewal of the Central Internal Medicine and Stroke Unit, which is currently used as an intensive care unit for cases infected with coronavirus.
The hospital also witnessed the provision of a PCR Covid analysis work service, including a QR code in the hospital, as well as the provision of a rapid analysis service for the coronavirus, including a QR code, in the travel hall for travellers and the development of central analysis laboratories.
EgyptAir Training Academy

As for EgyptAir Training Academy headed by pilot Ehab Eltahawy, it signed many agreements, the first of which was with the Libyan Mazaya Company for Consultation, Training and Aviation Sciences.
The Academy also signed an agreement with Airbus International to provide the academy with the latest technologies for training aircraft maintenance engineers.
Meteorological Authority
The Ministry of Civil Aviation, represented by the Meteorological Authority and headed by Major General Hisham Tahoun, also signed a co-operation protocol with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to activate the role of information technology and artificial intelligence techniques in developing services provided to experts and those interested in the field of meteorology, as well as weather forecasts, data management and analysis systems in order to provide services electronically.

The Meteorological Authority’s regional center for radiation also renewed its accreditation as an accredited regional centre in Africa, after participating in the classification of international standards and specifications in Davos, Switzerland, in accordance with the instructions of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
