Egypts Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag received on Thursday Canada’s Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan to probe means of co-operation in different fields.
During the meeting, el-Qabbag presented her ministry’s different programmes, including Takaful and Karama cash transfer programme for improving the lives of the poor and the vulnerable as well as Forsa programme which works on preparing families for the labour market so that they can depend on themselves financially and improve their quality of life.
The minister noted that through Forsa programme, ten training and employment units were established across 10 Egyptian governorates in partnership with private sector companies and factories for the economic empowerment of beneficiaries of Takaful and Karama programme.
She also presented other programmes related to safeguarding women from all forms of violence and protecting the rights of the disabled and empowering them in society.
El-Qabbag also referred to her ministry’s strategy in civil work in Egypt. She spoke about the law regulating the practice of civil associations and enhancing their work through an electronic system that was developed for the first time in Egypt, the Egyptian indicator for civil associations, and the civil work academy that is being established currently.
On his part, Harjit Sajjan praised the efforts done by the ministry of social solidarity, especially in the field of economic empowerment. He affirmed that there are big opportunities for mutual co-operation between the two countries in various fields.
