Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity is still distributing Meeza cards and beneficiaries of social protection schemes will have the cards delivered to their homes, a senior official announced on Monday.

Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbaj said that her ministry is currently distributing 250,000 Meeza cards for the new beneficiaries of cash support programmes Takaful and Karama through delivery companies.

This came in line with presidential directives to implement the additional social protection package.

El-Qababaj added that her ministry will have distributed Takaful and Karama cards to 500,000 new families at a cost of LE3 billion.

This service comes within the ministry’s strategy to develop the services and reduce the burden on citizens, el-Qabbaj said.

Some 5 million benefit from Takaful and Karama and the expansion of social protection costs LE25 billion for the largest conditional cash support programme of its kind, she said.

The programme received LE19 billion in funding the past year, then reached LE22 billion last April or 450,000 families.

Funding is currently LE25 billion.

The number of beneficiaries has increased by 1 million families, in coordination with the National Alliance for Community and Development Work, el-Qabbaj said.

‘This confirms Egypt’s keenness to serve human rights to provide for their needs, improve health, and discourage early marriage and many negative social practices hindering development efforts,’ el-Qababaj said.
