CAIRO – The Supreme Council of Al Azhar, led by Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb, approved an international and comprehensive program to teach Arabic language to non-native speakers, according to a statement.
The move came in response to high desires and calls from several world countries to learn the Arabic language and Islamic sciences, said the statement.
Nahla el Saidi, the Grand Imam’s Advisor for Expatriate Affairs and Head of the Development Center of International Students, said the program is meeting the desires of several countries and growing needs of teaching the Arabic language, it added.
She said Al Azhar is keen on promoting the Arabic language in the Muslim world as it is playing an important role in understanding the true and moderate teachings of Islam and boosting the cultural channels of communication among peoples.
