CAIRO – The Al Azhar Institution has welcomed Egypt’s announcement that it would support South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The prestigious religious institution, in a statement, expressed full support for the political leadership in this stance that reflects Egypt’s position and honorable history in favor of the Palestinian cause.
This move is also in line with the Egyptian people’s stance in support of the struggle of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the statement added.
Al Azhar called on all parties to exercise highest political, global and popular pressure to stop the bloodshed and end the Israeli siege of Gaza, and try Israel for its crimes over 75 years of occupation against the Palestinian people.
Israeli massacres that have been going on in Gaza for more than 220 days must stop, it stressed.
