CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Eldin Farouq discussed with Brazilian Ambassador to Egypt Paulino Franco de Carvalho boosting bilateral cooperation and benefiting from the great agricultural expertise and potentials available in both countries.

During their meeting, the minister said Egypt is looking forward to developing trade cooperation with Brazil, particularly in light of the considerable development and growth of the trade balance between the two countries in the past period.

He stressed the importance of electronic veterinary (e-veterinary) certification for Brazilian imports of meat and meat products.

He also underlined the necessity of working to beef up trade in agricultural commodities, in light of the free trade agreement signed with the MERCOSUR countries, which groups Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

For his part, the Brazilian diplomat said that agricultural and trade cooperation between Egypt and Brazil are going well in light of the distinguished ties between the wise political leaderships in the two countries.

He referred to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Sao Paulo, which was followed by a similar visit by Brazilian President Lula da Silva to Cairo in February, during which many important trade and agricultural agreements were signed.

They also discussed cooperation in applied scientific research on sugarcane, cotton and wheat crops.

They also stressed the importance of continuing communication between agricultural research centers in the two countries in this field through the agreement signed between the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and Egypt’s Agricultural Research Center (ARC).
