CAIRO – Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit stressed on Thursday that finding a political solution is the only key to settling the long-standing crisis in Yemen, welcoming the inter-Yemen consultations currently being hosted by Riyadh.
Abul Gheit said these consultations are an important step on the road to find a political solution to the crisis that would stem bloodshed and bring back stability to the country.
He renewed condemnation of repeated attacks launched by Houthis against Saudi Arabia and the UAE, saying they constitute a flagrant violation of international law as these attacks target civil facilities and endanger lives of civilians.
Houthis’ continuation of hostile acts and its rejection of all peace and ceasefire initiatives should be met by a firm and unified stance by the international community.
Achieving peace in Yemen is not possible as long as the Houthi group does not sense an international consensus against its criminal approach, he said.
