Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit asserted that the Arab countries are working on augmenting all its available resources at the Arab financial institutions to achieve sustainable food security and they are in dire need for help from the international community.
Addressing a roundtable organised by Egypt in co-operation with UN as part of the High-Level Segment of the UN Climate Conference, Abul Gheit affirmed that food security is one of the key challenges facing Arab countries in the current phase, noting that the strategy of Arab food security, floated by the Arab League at Algiers Arab Summit, aimed at increasing production and rationalising resources along with adopting climate-friendly approaches.
He pointed out to a rise in poverty in the Arab region due to coronavirus pandemic as more than a quarter of the Arab population are suffering poverty, pressing the need for accelerating the funding issue to narrow the food gap in the Arab region.
