The Egyptian Drugs Authority (EDA) and the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) signed a joint co-operation mechanism to resolve the status of products containing concentrations of effective substances that cross the limits, as well as products containing concentrations of effective substances below the limits, with the agreed lists previously registered by EDA, so that their registration can be transferred to NFSA.
Dr. Ali el-Ghamrawy, Head of the Egyptian Drugs Authority, stressed that the goal of signing the mechanism is to preserve the health of citizens, adjust the relationship between pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements, and follow the highest standards of safety and high quality in the production of medicines and supplements in Egypt.
El-Ghamrawy lauded the role of NFSA in promoting the concepts of quality, safety, and effectiveness of supplements, as well as its desire to co-operate with EDA.
The integration of roles between the two bodies affirms ongoing co-operation and exchange of experiences and works together to localise the concepts of quality, effectiveness, and safety of Egyptian medicine and food, el-Ghamrawy said.
El-Houby, for his part, stressed the importance of this co-operation with EDA, and the signing of the mechanism represents a strategic step aimed at regulating the trading of supplements in various markets.
NFSA sought to spread proper food awareness and ensure the safety of products traded in markets.
‘EDA plays its active role to tighten the control of the market, working with it within the national institutional work system aimed at achieving Egypt’s vision for 2030 by creating the right environment for investment, supporting the pharmaceutical and supplement industry companies, and localising expertise and modern technology,’ el-Houby said.
