For the first time, Cairo will host an international summit focused on smart and green agriculture, as the inaugural “Agritech” International Conference and Exhibition is set to take place from October 28 to 30 at the Royal Maxim Kempinski Hotel. Organized by the Agricultural Syndicate and EduGate Exhibitions, the event is under the patronage of Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. Several prominent organizations, including the Egyptian Space Agency, USAID, the World Food Program, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), will also participate.
This groundbreaking event will gather major international and Egyptian companies, agricultural startups, top officials, and innovators to discuss the latest sustainable technologies and investment opportunities in agriculture. The summit is seen as a crucial platform for advancing Egypt’s sustainable agricultural goals and fostering collaboration among global stakeholders.
Dr. Sayed Khalifa, President of the Agricultural Syndicate and Secretary-General of the African Agricultural Engineers Union, emphasized the significance of Agritech 2024. He highlighted that the event is part of Egypt’s broader national efforts to modernize its agricultural sector and integrate green technologies in alignment with the country’s 2030 strategy. This vision includes large-scale projects such as the reclamation of 1.5 million feddans in the Egyptian Countryside Project, the New Delta Project’s expansion to 2.2 million feddans, and agricultural initiatives in Sinai. In addition, the government is supporting projects like the 100,000 Greenhouses Project and the National Program for Livestock Development, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability.
Khalifa pointed out that Egypt’s recent success in agricultural exports, reaching over 120 countries with nearly 6 million tons of produce last season, underscores the need to keep pace with global advancements in agriculture. Agritech offers a vital opportunity for agricultural engineers and stakeholders to stay informed about smart agricultural practices and emerging green technologies, while also creating new investment and export partnerships.
Dr. Ali Shams El-Din, Chairman of the Agritech Organizing Committee and former President of Benha University, noted that global attention is increasingly focused on the transition to smart and green agriculture, particularly in the context of renewable energy and emission-free systems. He stressed the importance of accelerating efforts in these areas to address climate change, enhance resilience, and incorporate innovative technologies across food production systems.
Shams El-Din added that the summit will provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders to gather, exchange ideas, and develop a shared vision for the future of sustainable agriculture. By bringing together scientists, business leaders, and policymakers, Agritech aims to foster international collaboration and accelerate the adoption of green agricultural practices in Egypt and beyond.
The accompanying exhibition will showcase cutting-edge technologies in soil and water management, crop nutrition, and renewable energy use, giving agricultural producers and business leaders access to the latest innovations in smart and sustainable farming. The exhibition is expected to highlight advancements in both global and local markets, helping Egypt achieve its sustainable agriculture goals while enhancing resilience to climate challenges.
This first-of-its-kind event is expected to serve as a catalyst for Egypt’s transition to a more sustainable and efficient agricultural sector, while also reinforcing the country’s role as a leader in green innovation.
