Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam said the flash flood protection mechanism managed to protect Tur city in Sinai from torrential rains flowing from May’ar villages through dams established there for the purpose.
This came in a report which Sweilam received from the head of the underground water sector Osama Zaher.
Sweilam explained that torrential rains water passed safely into the lakes in front of the protection dam in May’ar villages.
The lakes can store up to 1.2 million cubic meters.
The Irrigation ministry established there five artificial lakes and three dams with a storage capacity at 7 million cubic meters.
