Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday followed up on the ongoing and future projects for the upgrade of sea, dry and land ports nationwide.
This came during two meetings the President held with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli as well as a host of ministers and top government officials, Presidency Spokesman, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy said.
The President was briefed During the meeting on the development of the Salloum land port, which represents a lifeline in western Egypt as it facilitates travel and transportation to and from Libya. It also contributes to enhancing the flow of goods and increasing trade exchanges.
The meeting also dealt with the situation of development of the Alexandria port, especially the multi-purpose “Long Live Egypt” terminal, which includes trading yards with an area of half a million square meters. The terminal has a capacity of handling from 12 to 15 million tons of goods annually and receiving from 6 to 7 ships with large loads at the same time.
At the second meeting, the President was briefed on the developments in the construction of the Gargoub seaport, which aims at achieving optimal utilization of the strategic location and the economic and environmental elements of the Gargoub region, through the establishment of a commercial container port in addition to a logistics services zone and international tourism centres, to maximise revenues from boosting trade traffic between Egypt, Europe and Africa.
The President stressed the great importance of these efforts in supporting the Egyptian economy and pushing it to the ranks of developed countries commercially and industrially in addition to the development of the areas adjacent to ports in logistical, industrial and service activities, especially in light of Egypt’s current world-class road network and modern and multiple means of transportation.
