General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) chairman Ahmed el-Sobki, who is the General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, on Monday received Cameroonian Ambassador in Cairo Mohamadou Labarang for co-operation talks.

Egypt is pursuing all efforts to achieve comprehensive development in Africa, particularly in health services, el-Sobki said.

The two sides discussed ways to transfer Egyptian experience in health reform to Cameroon and co-operate in attracting medical tourism from Yaoundé to Cairo for treatment in the authority’s hospitals.

The meeting came in response to directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to support African countries in achieving the goals of sustainable development, el-Sobki said, referring to opportunities to activate medical tourism with Africa since GAH hospitals are equipped according to international standards and staffed by highly skilled physicians in all specialties.

For his part, the Cameroonian envoy expressed his admiration for recent developments in health care in Egypt. He also hailed Egypt’s experience in comprehensive health insurance coverage, which he described as “a model that must be followed in all African countries”.
