BEIJING – Xi Jinping was unanimously elected president of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the PRC on Friday at the ongoing session of the 14th National People’s Congress
The vote for Xi was 2,952 to 0 by the NPC, members of which are appointed by the ruling party.
In the Chinese system of governance, the functions of the president are largely ceremonial.
