CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Thursday a phone call from James Cleverly, UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the contact tackled the latest serious developments in the Palestinian territories and ways of enhancing regional and international efforts to defuse tension between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

Shoukry updated the UK secretary on efforts exerted by Egypt to contain the situation in the Palestinian territories and encourage the two sides to return to negotiating table.

The UK secretary expressed his country’s growing concern over the deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions in the Palestinian territories.

He reiterated the UK commitment to work with regional and international partners, especially Egypt, to deescalate the situation and encourage the two sides resume peace talks.

The two sides also tackled the Ukrainian-Russian crisis as they warned of the seriousness of continued crisis and its serious ramifications on developing nations as regards food and energy security.

Talks also tackled ways of boosting bilateral cooperation within the coming period.
