Egypt has strongly condemned a decision by the Israeli government meant to “legalise” settlements in the occupied Palestinian lands and build new units.
The decision blatantly violates relevant UN Security Council resolutions and international law that stress the illegitimacy of all forms of settlement activities and consider them unacceptable, provocative actions, a statement by the Foreign Ministry said Monday.
Cairo warns of dire consequences of the Israeli decision, where regional security and stability are concerned, the statement said, noting that it would further foment tension and escalate violence in the occupied Palestinian lands.
The statement called for an immediate stop of all unilateral measures by Israel, including the demolition of houses and detention of Palestinians.
Such practices that violate international law should stop, if any truce is to be reached, the statement read, stressing the need to create a favorable atmosphere for the parties to return to the negotiating table and discuss a just solution for the Palestinian problem based on international legitimacy resolutions.
