The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population said hearing tests have been conducted for 4.317 million children since September, 2019 as part of the initiative of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for the early detection of hearing problems and deafness in newborns.
Spokesman for the ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the hearing of 466,250 children will be re-tested.
He said that 3,500 health units all over Egypt conduct hearing scans for newborns from one-day-old until 28-day-old.
Early detection of hearing problems helps prevents any hearing disability and facilitates treatment in addition to avoiding the problems of speaking, he said.
