Cairo- A large group of Sudanese political forces and personalities announced the formation of a national bloc and the drafting of a political declaration that would serve as a roadmap for completing the transitional phase.
The declaration includes the formation of a political body from all segments of the Sudanese society tasked with choosing the consensual prime minister, the two cabinets, the sovereignty and the transitional parliament.
This came in a press conference held on Tuesday by a large number of representatives of the Sudanese political and regional forces at the conclusion of the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue workshop hosted by Egypt and held under the slogan “Prospects of Democratic Transformation towards a Sudan that Can Accommodate All”.
Mubarak Al-Fadil Al-Mahdi, head of the Sudanese Ummah Party of Reform and Renewal, said Egypt, by hosting this meeting, made a quantum leap in the Sudanese arena because before that there was a group of blocs that did not include an agreement or a coalition, and there was only one force, the Freedom and Change Coalition, which had a preference of some forces that it was dealing with.
He added, “Now in Cairo, there is a unified bloc with one agreement on all issues representing a large part of the Sudanese people”.
“We do not disagree with our brothers in the Declaration of Freedom and Change Coalition on the tasks of the transitional period and that there should be an independent transitional government of technocrats, but the disagreement is about the fact that they cancelled the constitutional document in the last framework agreement, which they contributed to developing in 2019,“ he added.
He also said that the constitutional document of 2019 contributed to its writing and therefore there should be no disagreement about it, adding, “Now we have reached a final stage through this dialogue.”
For his part, Abdel Razek Asher from the Democratic Bloc said yesterday’s workshop produced papers on constitutional arrangements, institutional reform, peace, eastern Sudan issues, the removal of the empowerment of the former regime, money recovery, youth and revolution issues, transitional justice and the structures of the transitional period.
He added that the document calls for the establishment of a transitional body comprising 60% of the participants in the dialogue and will have representatives of youth, women and groups of the Sudanese people, provided that this body chooses the prime minister, the cabinet, the sovereignty and the transitional legislative council.
