German School celebrates 150 years 1 - Egyptian Gazette

The Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule (German Evangelical High School) in Cairo celebrated its 150th anniversary in the presence of distinguished guests, including German Ambassador Frank Hartmann.

DEO is one of the German schools accredited abroad with a long history and is considered one of the oldest and greatest German schools around the world.

Ambassador Hartmann said: “I always meet at conferences and receptions many graduates of German schools abroad who occupy prestigious positions in the fields of economy, politics, administration, education and culture, and for Germany they are door openers and bridge builders”.

“The German Evangelical High School in Cairo (DEO), with its global approach, is not only an educational institution, but is also an example of a well-known reality on the path of joint endeavour to find solutions to global problems, and therefore it contributes by virtue of its comprehensive and integrated educational approach to shaping the future,” the Ambassador said.

Cultural, educational and scientific co-operation constitutes the firm foundation for the close relations between Germany and Egypt, and there is hardly any other field of bilateral relations that witnesses this momentum of long and close relations between the German and Egyptian peoples, and the German schools play a distinguished role.

There are seven accredited German schools in Egypt. There are also 35 partner schools, which is more than the number of German schools in China or the USA, for example.

A total of 4,500 male and female students, most of them Egyptians, attend these German schools in Egypt. They grow up loving and relating to the two countries, and become distinguished bridge builders who contribute to understanding, rapprochement and exchange between Germany and Egypt.
