Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister, Moustafa Madbouli, Education Minister Reda Hegazi and Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet to follow up on current efforts to develop the nation’s basic education system.

In the course of the review, President Sisi called for focusing on the development of human cadres and the school teachers system, Presidency Spokesman, Ambassador Bassam Radi, said.

He added that the president also gave directives for establishing more distinguished schools of various types, within the framework of the state’s strategic and firm orientation to promote investment in education and create a new generation of scientifically and culturally competent citizens.

The presidential directives also called for backing efforts by the Ministry of Education to expand Applied Technology Schools and spreading societal awareness of their importance, as a successful model of specialized schools that rely on cooperation with the private sector to meet its needs for specialized technical cadres, especially in the fields of communications and information technology.

These schools, the president said, are key elements of the industry and development process, along with crafts occupations.

During the meeting, the president also reviewed the efforts made by the Ministry of Education to establish, develop and raise the efficiency of educational facilities across Egypt.

The president’s review in this regard included the Decent Life initiative for the development of the Egyptian countryside, Spokesman Radi said.

President Sisi also urged the Ministry of Education to make a regular revision of the status of educational facilities around the nation, in coordination with the local government sector in the governorates, Ambassador Radi said.

Minister Hegazi, for his part, briefed the president on the Education Ministry’s plan for the comprehensive modernization of the basic education system, especially including the teaching staff and seeking to ensure their availability in numbers commensurate with those of learners.

The minister also referred to the training offered for schoolteachers, the qualification of school headmasters and the upgrading of curricula in different schooling stages, Spokesman Radi said.
