The Ministry of Social Solidarity participated in the international training course organised and supervised by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) under the title ‘Social Participation of Persons with Disabilities Through a Comprehensive Community-Based Approach’.
Egypt, Ethiopia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa were represented at the event.
Yutaka Takamin, head of the Empowerment Organisation for Persons with Disabilities for the Japanese state of Okinawa was also present.
This training course aims to assist governmental and non-governmental organisations and organisations of persons with disabilities in enhancing the responsibility of community participation in developing strategic plans.
Dr Mohamed Helmy Khalaf, Consultant for Disability and Governance Services at the Ministry of Social Solidarity, said trainees learned to promote social participation and the livelihoods of persons with disabilities through case studies, visiting local communities, and discussion between participating countries and Japan.
The course covered an analysis of roles, functions and network of government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and associations of people with disabilities through case studies by Okinawa Japan.
The session also dealt with the outlines of social welfare policy, employment and support measures in Japan.
