Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas confirmed that Cairo International Airport witnessed the arrival and departure of 77,000 passengers on the last day of December 2022, coinciding with the New Year celebrations and Christmas holidays.

During his meeting with aviation reporters , Minister Abbas said that development work is proceeding ahead at Egyptian airports across the country. He said that developing Sharm El-Sheikh airport costs around LE1.2 billion, and development work at Sphinx International Airport totalled approximately LE2 billion.

He noted that with regard to Borg Al Arab Airport, it was planned to open Terminal 2 next July.

The minister of civil aviation added that, as of next March, El-Alamein and Berenice airports  will be ready to receive all regular airline flights.

Abbas added that EgyptAir transported about 36,000 passengers during the climate summit, which was held in in Sharm El-Sheikh last November.

He hailed great efforts made by EgyptAir, notably during the COP27 summit, which recorded the highest turnout at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport.

Minister Abbas pointed out that the national aircarrier, EgyptAir, drew the expertise of global airlines, including Lufthansa, to develop the civil aviation sector. He said that EgyptAir company owns 70 aircraft at the present time.

Abbas said that Air Cairo, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, now owns 24 planes, compared to 12 aircraft last July.
