President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has affirmed Egypt’s aspiration to launch a new phase of constructive co-operation, whether at the bilateral level or within the Egyptian-Iraqi-Jordanian tripartite framework, to usher into broader horizons of extended strategic partnership aimed primarily at strengthening joint Arab action.
The president’s remarks came as he participated in a four-way meeting in Baghdad with Iraqi President Barham Saleh, King Abdullah II of Jordan and Iraqi Prime Minister Moustafa Al-Khadimi.
During the meeting, the president expressed his appreciation for close and historical relations that unite the two countries at the official and popular levels.
For his part, the Iraqi president stressed his country’s pride in President Sisi’s visit, the first by an Egyptian president to Iraq over more than 30 years.
Saleh also highlighted the depth of ties between Egypt and Iraq, and his country’s keenness to raise co-operation with Egypt to the level of strategic partnership for the sake of the two brotherly peoples and as a cornerstone for maintaining regional security and stability and restoring balance to the region.
The Iraqi president also expressed his country’s aspiration to benefit from the successful Egyptian experience in carrying out developmental projects and comprehensive economic reforms as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild Iraq and to learn about the tireless Egyptian efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.
