The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed up the case of Egyptians injured in a cargo ship fire accident off the Turkish coast.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said that it is closely following up with the Egyptian Embassy in Ankara the condition of the injured Egyptians in the incident that took place on Tuesday when the cargo ship Beata Alfa caught fire near the Turkish coast. Fourteen Egyptian citizens were on board as part of the ship’s crew of 17.
The Foreign Ministry continued contacts around the clock to coordinate with various Egyptian ministries and authorities concerned as the Egyptian Embassy in Ankara took action from the first moments of the accident to check on the injured citizens, and follow up with the Turkish authorities and hospitals to which they were transferred to receive the necessary healthcare.
The members of the embassy met with four of the injured who recovered and left the hospital, and followed up with the specialised doctors the developments in the health condition of the rest of the injured who are expected to remain in the hospital to receive healthcare. Moreover, the embassy has been in close contact the families of the injured to reassure them and notify them of the developments in their health condition.
The embassy in Ankara also continued to contact the shipping agent to ensure that the injured citizens receive their financial dues, and to oblige it to bear the costs of treatment until they recover.
It should be noted that among the fourteen citizens who were on board the ship, there is one death, in addition to the missing captain of the ship, Hossam Ahmed Thabet Abdel Hafez, who is still being searched for.
In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs mourned the death of citizen Mohamed Ramadan Farghali Mahmoud Qassem, who passed away in this painful accident. Measures for the return of his body to the homeland are being completed.
