South Korea has unveiled plans to resume direct flights to and from Egypt.

During a meeting with Minister of Civil Aviation Abbas Helmy on Tuesday, South Korean Ambassador to Egypt Hong Jin-wook said that he is looking forward to maintaining cooperation with Egyptian side to activate people-to-people exchange between the two countries as Korea Air and Asiana Airlines plan to operate charter flights in January and February of next year.

Ambassador Hong added that Egypt’s travel advisory level for South Korean citizens was lowered last August for the first time in 8 years, and therefore it is expected that the number of South Korean tourists to Egypt will increase.

The South Korean Embassy in Cairo will do all in its power to facilitate talks to resume direct flights between the two countries.

For his part, the minister of civil aviation voiced hope for an increase in the number of South Korean tourists coming to Egypt and the operation of charter flights.

The minister asked the South Korean Embassy to support EgyptAir, which is working to restore direct flights between Cairo and Seoul.
