As many as 10,000 emails have been registered within 48 hours on the online platform of the initiative which allows Egyptian expatriates to import tax-free cars, said Finance Minister Mohamed Maait.

The minister, meanwhile, issued directives to facilitate procedures related to this initiative.

In statements Saturday, Head of the Customs Authority El Shahat Ghaturi said that the initiative started on November 15 and will run until March 14, 2023.

The official app of the initiative was launched to receive the applications of the Egyptian expatriates wishing to import cars with the new facilities, he added.

Explaining the registration process, Ghaturi said that the expats who wish to import cars have to open an email account on this online platform, register data, and upload documents, he added.

The platform that will automatically calculate the required USD payment for expats based on the model of the car they will import, he went on to explain.

Egyptians from 16 and above, who have valid residence permits abroad and bank accounts, which should be at least three months old, have the right to import one private passenger car for their personal use, he added.

The law does not prohibit the sale of the car after importing it, he noted.
