The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineer Takrek el Molla discussed with Chairman and CEO of US leader services Company Baker Jughes Lorenzo Simonelli and his accompanying delegation promoting bilateral co-operation, reducing carbon emissions, along with Egypt’s role in natural gas export and trade.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNCCC) COP27.

In statements on Thursday, the minister said this year’s participation of the oil and natural gas industry – the first time in the history of climate summits and conferences – is a message reflecting true efforts on the part of the industry providers in curbing emissions and supplying services in an environment-friendly atmosphere.

The Decarbonisation Day, slated for November 11, as part of COP27 activities, is a key chance for Baker Jughes and participating companies to bring forward all floated initiatives and projects designed to limit emissions and decarbonise, the minister said.

For his part, Baker Jughes CEO congratulated Egypt on the successful organization of COP27 in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, saying the gathering is witnessing massive participation that far exceeds previous years.

Egypt has become a regional hub for trading and exporting gas, Jughes said underlining Egypt’ high infrastructure potentials that enable it benefit from all resources that Eastern Mediterranean is brimming with.
