The Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said Egypt came in the fourth position among 47 African states achieving sustainable development goals in accordance with the United Nations 2022 report on this score.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that Maait’s remarks came at a session to mark “Finance Day” within the framework of United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), currently hosted by Sharm el-Sheikh.

Maait said 30 per cent of Egypt’s public investments in the current fiscal year budget are related to the sustainable development goals, compared with 15 per cent one year earlier. Such a rate is set to reach 50 per cent in the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

The minister pointed out that Egypt developed a roadmap in 2018 to encourage investments related to the climate and goals of sustainable development and launched several initiatives to realise such aspirations.

Egypt has also launched the national strategy for climate change 2050 in February, the minister said, lauding Egypt’s efforts on carrying out programmes for adaption to the climate change, transport, agriculture and water resources, among others.
