Alok Sharma, the President for COP26 climate change conference, has appreciated Egypt’s efforts to host COP27 conference.

Addressing the opening procedural session of the UN-sponsored gathering, Sharma said the United Kingdom exerted strenuous efforts during the presidency of COP26 despite the COVID-19 pandemic, pointing out that the world leaders agreed on the importance of cooperation in the environment domain.

Sharma said the gathering participants managed to reach the Glasgow charter because of the unanimity on the matter and its importance.

He added that all countries helped achieve the Paris declaration about environment especially in the fossil fuel domain and also pledged to increase the finance to the adaptation to climate change.

He added that all parties agreed to reconsider the goals of curbing emissions by 2030 to meet the goals of the Paris agreement.

Sharma said the Russian-Ukrainian war and COVID-19 worsened the world crises including those related to food, energy, prices, inflation and foreign debts.

He added that despite the crises, tangible progress has been achieved in terms of implementing the commitments towards the Glasgow conference.

Sharma added that the biggest world companies and organizations are committed to the carbon neutrality which is a state of net-zero carbon dioxide emissions and also are committed to pumping billions in green industry.
