Chairman of the General Healthcare Authority, Dr Ahmed el-Sobki, inspected on Sunday final preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Accompanying el-Sobki in the tour were South Sinai Governor, Khaled Fouda, and World Health Organisation Representative in Egypt, Dr Naeema al-Gasseer.

They made a tour of several health facilities in Sharm el-Sheikh, including Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital.

They checked the hospital’s preparedness for the conference which will be held next week.

Among other places, el-Sobki and his guests visited the Diagnostic and telemedical Communications Unit at Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital.

He said the unit would contribute to improving the quality of health services and care provided to the delegations participating in the conference.

It will also, he added, facilitate their access to medical service.

El-Sobki noted that smart robots would be used, for the first time, in nursing, sterilisation, infection control, transfer of analysis samples, and patient services.

“This comes within the framework of our efforts to maximise the use of modern technology and innovative solutions to ensure the provision of the best medical and therapeutic services and care to the delegates participating in the conference,” el-Sobki said.

He pointed to the training of medical teams in emergency medicine and critical cases, in partnership with the World Health Organization at the highest level.

The same teams, he said, were trained in medical evacuation operations in case of emergency and the effective management of emergencies.

“All these preparations aim at ensuring the implementation of the medical insurance plan at the highest level of quality and accuracy,” he said.

The chairman of the General Healthcare Authority noted that rapid deployment teams are also ready for the conference.

The teams, he said, are ready to intervene and provide support in case of major accidents.

El-Sobki’s tour also took him to the Central Operations Room for Crisis and Emergency Management at the same hospital.

He said the hospital operates around the clock to identify medical or logistical needs and provide them immediately.

He added that the room also links all vital facilities electronically with all parties concerned with the implementation of the medical insurance plan for the conference, under the umbrella of the Unified National Network of Emergency and Public Safety Services.
