Cairo’s renovated Sphinx International Airport (SPX) is ready to receive flights as of November 1, Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmy said Saturday.
The minister was touring the airport after the extension of its expansion project to increase its annual capacity to 1.2 million passengers.
Sphinx Airport offers an important addition to serving the air and tourist traffic coming to Egypt during the next stage. This contributes to putting into force Egypt’s 2030 vision to achieve sustainable development, he added.
Air Cairo, which is one of the companies affiliated with the Civil Aviation Ministry, will operate 12 domestic flights monthly between SPX and the airports of Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan.
The airport’s international flights to a number of Arab and European countries will start in December.
