Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) chairman Waleed Gamal Eddin on Thursday met with Kay Fischner, head of Strategic Decarbonisation Projects at Maersk, Layla el-Hares, vice chairman and managing director of Siemens Energy in Egypt, and Maersk Group Egypt representative Hany el-Nady.
The SCZone and Maersk and its subsidiaries in Egypt have been working together on the localisation of the green hydrogen industry.
Discussions focused on feasibility studies on green hydrogen pilot projects in preparation for signing final contracts at the COP27 summit.
“The SCZone fully supports companies that have signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for setting up green hydrogen schemes in the zone,” Gamal Eddin said.
Studies are underway to select suitable production sites granting convenient logistical access to feeder industries, and assessing the financial and legal bases for the green hydrogen project, Gamal Eddin added.
For her part, el-Hares said Siemens will take into account factors to make the best use of resources available in the SCZone.
