CAIRO – Head of the State Information Service (SIS) Diaa Rashwan asserted that the international community’s choice of Egypt to host the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), held in Sharm el-Sheikh from November 6 till 18, reflected an international appreciation of the visions, initiatives and efforts of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in countering the impact of climate change.

Rashwan’s remarks were made in the SIS’s newly released book titled “Egypt and the Issues of Climate Change” which was published in several languages.

In his book, Rashwan said choosing Egypt for hosting such international event reflected a big confidence in Egypt’s ability to successfully organizing big events with a huge number of participants including world leaders and experts.

He also reviewed Sisi’s efforts on the climate issues and his clear visions on strategies to mitigate the harmful impact of climate change at the local, regional and international levels. He also underlined Egypt’s practical steps towards adopting a sustainable development model that preserves the environment and complies with the comprehensive national strategies in the state.

Rashwan also pointed out to the state’s implementation of as many as 85 projects for coping with climate change with a total value of dlrs 11.9 billion as part of the 13th objective of the sustainable development plan for 2030.

He also shed light on Egypt’s initiatives of “Go Green” and “Back to Nature” as well as the national dialogue on climate change along with other documents and events that Egypt has organised over the past phase in preparation for the COP27.
