Egypt’s Minister of Culture Nevine el-Kilani met on Sunday Governor of South Sinai Khaled Fouda, to discuss the artistic activities to be held in a number of tourist sites in Sharm el-Sheikh.
The meeting came in preparation for the COP27 climate conference, which will be held in the Red Sea resort next month.
Officials from the Ministry of Culture and South Sinai Governorate attended the meeting to review venues for artistic activities to highlight the Egyptian identity.
Following the meeting, the two officials visited Sharm el-Sheikh Culture Palace and toured the Roman Theatre.
Meanwhile, the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh has been the scene of busy activities with 30 national projects due for completion within the next few days.
The projects include the construction of a bridge on the King Salman Road and the building of five transverse axes linking Al-Salam, King Salman, and the Ring Road.
The construction of the municipal management unit for Sharm el-Sheikh, a central park, a shopping mall, a banking complex, a veterinary clinic, a heritage village, the development of the international camel race track in the safari area, planting main roads with greenery and the construction of three solar power stations are also on the list of national projects, being executed in Sharm el-Sheikh, that hosts this important global event.
Work is under way to upgrade the commercial market area, including the installation of electric car charging points, Governor Fouda said in recent press remarks.
A new smart taxi system is also in the pipeline. The city now has 717 taxis with a tracking system and CCTV in each vehicle, the governor said.
During the conference period, 260 gas and electric buses with Internet access will be operating in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh are preparing to welcome than 30,000 visitors for COP27.
Taxis and buses will take visitors from their hotels to conference areas, of which one is the Blue Zone, a state-of-the-art conference hall that will serve as a model for sustainable environmental compatibility.
The nearby Green Zone will serve as a platform for the business community, youth, women, civil society, residents, academia, artists and the fashion community from various countries.
“We have been reducing the use of plastics, installing solar panels, collecting bio-waste and sending it to companies for recycling,” Fouda said, adding that attention had been paid to security systems across South Sinai and in Sharm el-Sheikh.
