The Arab League (AL) has called for enhancing Arab efforts aiming to recover from the lingering impact of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine crisis in a bid to pursue implementing the 2030 sustainable development goals (SDGs).

This came in a speech delivered by AL Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh during the opening session of the 110th round of the ALs’ Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level, which kicked off on Thursday at the pan-Arab body’s premises.

The meeting is held at a very crucial time, as the world is attempting to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, which triggered the most serious economic crisis, along with the Russia-Ukraine conflict, she added.

She also said that several Arab countries are already suffering from difficult conflicts, pointing out to the continuation of the Israeli practices against the Palestinians.

The agenda of the ministerial session includes several topics related to the Arab joint action and developmental issues of common concern for Arab citizens, she further said.

The ministerial meeting is also scheduled to review preparations for the fifth Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, to be hosted by Mauritania next year, she added.

Concluding her speech, Abu-Ghazaleh announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the AL’s general secretariat and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC).
