CAIRO– Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Sherif Issa said Sunday that Egypt is acting to promote cooperation relations with Africa at the political, economic and cultural levels.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has, since assuming office in 2014, been working to develop this approach, Issa said, citing tours the Egyptian leader had made in Africa, the latest to Djibouti.

This reflects big attention paid by Egypt to achieve stability, security and sustainable development in the continent, he noted. Egypt, Issa added, has also been working to boost its bilateral ties with every African country.

He was speaking during a meeting with participants in the second edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership, which is organized by the Sports Ministry. The two-week event is being held under the auspices of President Sisi.

Issa stressed the mutual benefit of the Nile water, noting that this has always been Egypt’s vision.

Egypt is not against building dams, the diplomat said, adding, however, that this should be done in coordination with all Nile Basin states. No unilateral decisions should be made in this regard, he added.

The Nile River is very important to Egypt, Issa said, noting that it depends on it by 96 percent as a source of life.

The Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh will soon be hosting the chairmen of 36 investment authorities in Africa, the diplomat said, adding they will discuss projects that could be built in their countries with the help of Egypt.
