Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said on Thursday the Egyptian Customs Authority (ECA) collected LE2,595,515 billion in taxes, customs duties and other charges at Ain Sokhna Port in July.
The minister reviewed ECA Chairman El-Shahhat Ghattori’s report on the ECA official’s efforts to ease and facilitate measures, as well as remove obstacles besetting businessmen to promote the authority’s performance and reduce the time for customs release, with a view to meeting local market needs.
The ECA Central Administration released a total of LE6,414 worth of custom certificates for various imported goods including wheat, sugar, legumes, maize, components of air conditioners, fridges, fans, fabrics, wood, yarn, mobile phone accessories, toys, and car spare parts, according to the report.
In addition, the value-added tax (VAT) and other charges imposed on the imported goods at the port stood at LE606,783 billion, it added.
Moreover, the port exported goods that include sand, phosphate, textiles and fiber glass products at a total value of LE2.044,326 billion, the report said. Charges collected for the exported goods reached LE644,000, it added.
