Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar discussed with Oka Hiroshi, the Japanese ambassador to Egypt, ways to enhance relations between the two countries in various civil aviation activities and open new horizons for co-operation through future projects in light of the strong relations between Egypt and Japan in the field of air transport.

Minister Manar expressed his appreciation for the close co-operation between the two countries in various civil aviation activities, as the first “environmentally friendly” building is currently being constructed at Borg El Arab International Airport in co-operation with the Japanese agency “JICA”.

This comes among the most important projects of the Egyptian civil aviation sector within the framework of the Ministry of Aviation’s strategy to transform Egyptian airports into “environmentally friendly airports” through the use of clean and renewable energy and the reduction of carbon emissions and environmental pollution in accordance with the Egyptian state’s vision 2030 and in order to achieve sustainable development goals.

For his part, Ambassador Hiroshi expressed his happiness with this meeting, praising the fruitful co-operation between the two countries in the field of air transport industry, as he stressed that the Egyptian civil aviation system is witnessing great development during the current period through the modernisation of infrastructure and development projects at Egyptian airports.

The Japanese ambassador pointed out that the Egyptian civil aviation sector is one of the promising sectors to attract more investments, looking forward to increasing air and tourist traffic between the two countries.

It is worth noting that the new “environmentally friendly” terminal at Borg El Arab International Airport has an area of about 34,000 square meters with a capacity of 4 million passengers annually, bringing the airport’s capacity to 5 million passengers.

The building includes 40 check-in counters and 16 passport counters. It relies on natural lighting in addition to industrial LED lighting, which contributes to saving energy consumption and reducing pollution.

The building also has an integrated service area and is equipped with the latest technical and technological systems in the field of airport construction worldwide.
