Egypt’s Finance Minister and Chairman of the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) Mohamed Maait said providing all-out integrated healthcare for Egyptian families is an unpostponable dream, despite all global economic crises triggered by the coronavirus and the Russian-Ukranian war forcing the entire globe to rearrange financing priorities.

In statements Sunday, the minister said we are pressing ahead with implementing President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to finalize Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS) encompassing all governorates, in a way that would help overhaul the entire health sector in Egypt.

Maait said incorporating the new health scheme into the 1st phase governorates of Suez, Aswan and South Sinai will be operational ahead of the current Fiscal Year 2022, citing the systems of successful health coverage application in Luxor, Port Said and Ismailia.

The State’s budget is bearing the financial brunt of diseases treatment expenses for needy families under the UHIS, that would all help lower poverty rates, he said.

According to the minister, the new scheme system’s price list currently covers 3,000 medical services extended to the subscribers.
