NEW YORK – Egypt’s Planning Minister Hala el Saeed stressed the importance of gender equality and women empowerment, highlighting that they are cornerstone for achieving the sustainable development goals.
El Saeed’s comments came during her meeting with UN Women Executive Director Sima Sami Bahous, on the sidelines of of her representation to Egypt in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), currently held at UNHQ in New York, under the theme of Building back better from COVID-19 while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
During their meeting, el Saeed pointed out that the coronavirus crisis and the economic uncertainties have its toll on the health, social, and economic conditions in Egypt and the whole world, and consequently on the women participation in the labor market.
The government is keen on having innovative political responses to create more measures ensuring a good representation to women and protecting their rights.
