CAIRO  – Egypt has fully vaccinated more than 37.6 million people against coronavirus, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said Thursday.

During a cabinet meeting Thursday chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, the minister reviewed the coronavirus pandemic situation elaborating that about 48.9 million people have received their first coronavirus vaccine shots.

Abdel Ghaffar said more than 6 million people received their third boosting shots, adding that the number of consumed vaccine doses reached 90.3 million. A total of 53.8 million doses are available which will be enough for vaccinating 33.5 million people in the coming period, he also said.

Meantime, the minister underlined the necessity of continued efforts to press ahead with raising vaccination rates among citizens, including boosting doses and related-knock-door campaigns, along with adhering to all precautionary and preventive health measures.

He also pointed out to continued coordination with international vaccine manufacturing companies and the Egyptian drug authority (EDA).

According to the minister, isolation hospitals are fully prepared to deal with any emergency. Abdel Ghaffar said he is following up the condition in all hospitals to ascertain that they have all their needs of strategic stocks of medicines and medical supplies.
