Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayed El Quseir has commended the significant progress in Egyptian-Japanese relations under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Quseir’s remarks came during his meeting with Japan’s new Ambassador in Cairo Oka Hiroshi, where they explored opportunities for cooperation in the agricultural field, according to a statement released by the Agriculture Ministry on Sunday.

In this regard, the agriculture minister called for swiftly finalizing measures of exporting Egyptian grapes to Japan, the statement added.

The pair discussed cooperation in fish farming and the development of irrigation systems and methods, the statement read.

They also probed cooperation in capacity-building, through the WFP-affiliated Luxor Coordination Center to train African cadres.

The agriculture minister and the Japanese diplomat mulled cooperation in agricultural mechanization, as well as the completion of the second phase of the Market-Oriented Agriculture Project (ISMAP).

The two sides touched on cooperation in climate change, where the agriculture minister expressed hope that Japan would support some initiatives to be presented by his ministry at the UN climate change conference (COP27) that will be held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in November.

On his part, the Japanese ambassador said his country looks forward to deepening cooperation with Egypt, especially in light of good ties between the two countries’ political leaderships.
