Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Sherif Lokman unveiled a plan for increasing the number of business development centers – which are being set up under the Nile Preneurs Initiative – from 33 centers to 100 in order to expand non-financial services for startups and small and medium sized enterprises.

The centers will also help women and youths of various governorates to establish their own projects.

This came during a session held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) which is due to wrap up later Saturday.

Lokman said there is special interest in boosting women’s activities under the official economy through several initiatives and programs.

He noted that the CBE’s Nile Preneurs initiative launched last month three programs for empowering women at the economic level.

He expounded that such a move helps boosting economic growth rates, creating jobs and improving living conditions in various areas.

Lokman also referred to the bank’s efforts to assess small companies operating under unofficial economy to achieve financial inclusion and offer them a chance to benefit from the banks’ services.
