President of the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology Ahmed el-Gohary announced the registration of a new patent for a metal cutting device.
Research students at the university found a way of using ultrasound to cut metal.
The equipment can be used for cutting operations in otherwise confined or inaccessible areas.
El-Gohary said that the university prioritises support for applied research that serves the community and provide solutions for industry.
This falls in the scope of Egypt’s strategy for sustainable development 2030, el-Gohary said.
Research team leader Mohab Hossam said the device is basically an electrical-mechanical energy converter that can be used in welding and fabrication.
