The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel el-Wazir, announced on Sunday the arrival of six electric yard cranes in the multi-purpose Tahya Misr Terminal (TMT) in Alexandria Port.

The terminal, the minister said, is one of the most important projects implemented in the field of shipping in Egypt.

He added that the arrival of the new cranes goes hand in hand with directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for making Egypt a global center for trade and logistics.

He explained that the new cranes have no parallel in Egypt and that they operate, using electrical connection poles that handle container yards.

The minister noted that it took terminal workers four days to unload the new cranes, a process that was supervised by a team of experts from the German company, Liebherr, which operates the terminal.

He said the assembling of the cranes had already started on the yard of the terminal under supervision from the experts of the German company.

He expected the installation of the cranes to take up to six weeks of work.
