CAIRO – Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi attended Saturday the signing ceremony of a contract with Siemens Mobility to install Egypt’s first-ever integrated high-speed rail transportation system.

The contract comprises a rail system of three lines with a network of 2,000 km nationwide.

President  Sisi said that the new high-speed rail transportation system consolidates fruitful co-operation between Egypt and Germany in the field of infrastructure.

Meeting with President and CEO of Siemens AG Roland Busch, Sisi hailed the course of co-operation between Egypt and Siemens, as well as the German experience in the field of industry, due to its quality, accuracy and discipline.

The new electric train network will represent a great push to the transportation system in Egypt, opening a new era for railways in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East, the president said.

It will help stimulate economic growth in Egypt and transform it into a highly developed regional hub for modern and environmentally friendly means of transportation, he added.
