Geocycle Lafarge Egypt, The Ministry of Environment safely dispose 200 tons of Hazardous Pesticides in 2021

Geocycle Lafarge Egypt – the leading provider of waste management solutions and subsidiary to Lafarge Egypt, member of LafargeHolcim Group – was diligently delegated to safely dispose 200 tons of hazardous pesticides, assembled from various regions across Egypt; including Cairo, Alexandria, Upper Egypt and the Delta. Within the framework of the ‘Sustainable Persistent Organic Pollutant Management Project’ or (POPs) & precisely in April 2021, the renewed collaboration witnessed achievements of Geocycle Lafarge Egypt in incinerating 34.9 tons of waste back in September 2020.

H.E. the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, stated: “The Ministry is always keen on allying with concerned parties to dump harmful waste ecologically; capitalizing on modern technology to maintain the health & wellbeing of people.” Fouad added: “At the Ministry of Environment, we highly treasure the unceasing endeavors borne by Geocycle Lafarge Egypt in strictly complying to world-class environmental standards. Together, we can properly attain the State’s ultimate agenda of creating a clean & safe ambiance to all citizens.”

Her Excellency further explained that the fruitful cooperation between Geocycle Lafarge Egypt and the Ministry of Environment comprises meticulous examination for all waste disposal procedures; from receiving, unloading and internal transportation of pesticides, to feeding the factory furnaces. Her Excellency also highlighted the incineration practices run under the supervision of Engineer/ Ahmed Abdelhamid, Director of the Sustainable POPs Management Project, in collaboration with Civil Defense Officials, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, and the Suez Governorate. Additionally, she praised Geocycle Lafarge Egypt’s proficiency in meticulously applying HSE measures. Workers are appropriately equipped with specifically-designed protective apparatus to optimize their safety, complemented by an emergency fire brigade vehicle stationed within the plant to secure the incineration operation and intervene whenever necessary.
