CAIRO – Chairman of the Food Export Council Hany Barzy said on Sunday exports of the Egyptian food industry increased by 5 percent in the first quarter of 2022, recording 1.04 billion dollars against 996 million dollars in the corresponding period in 2021.

In a statement, Barzy pointed out that Arab countries topped the list of international groups importing food industry products from Egypt.

Exports to the Arab markets amounted to 588 million dollars in the first quarter of 2022, representing 56 percent of the total food exports, Barzy explained.

The European Union came second in the list with a value of 169 million dollars, representing 7 percent of Egypt’s total food exports, Barzy said.

It was followed by non-Arab African countries with the value of food imported from Egypt amounting to 76 million dollars, representing 7 percent of the total.

The value of food exports to the US declined by 6 percent to 61 million dollars.

The rest of the international groups recorded 151 million dollar worth of food imports from Egypt during the same period, representing 15 percent of the total Egyptian food exports.
