LONDON – Egypt’s midfielder Mohamed Elneny has been nominated for Arsenal Player of the Month for April following his impressive performances against Chelsea and Manchester United, KingFut reported.
Having played just six minutes of football with Arsenal in 2022, Elneny was placed in the starting lineups in two decisive games against Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Egyptian had a stellar performance at the Stamford Bridge, helping his side to a 4-2 victory as he played the full 90 minutes, before starting once again three days later against United.
The 29-year-old partnered Granit Xhaka in midfield, working tirelessly without the ball, and was tidy in possession, before assisting the Swiss in the Gunners’ third goal.
While his performance didn’t earn him the MOTM award, the Egyptian’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed by Premier League legend Alan Shearer, who included him in his Team of the Week.
Moreover, the Egyptian has made the shortlist for Arsenal’s Player of the Month award for April alongside midfield partner Granit Xhaka, star man Bukayo Saka, and Eddie Nketiah.
If he manages to win it, it will become the first time since January 2018 the Egyptian has claimed the award and the fourth time of his career, having won it back-to-back in March and April of 2016.
