Egyptian Ministry of Health said Friday that it had followed up the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Sohag Governorate closely over the past week, including infection and death rates.

Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahid said 17 hospitals in the governorate are taking Covid-19 patients after the number of hospitals had been increased.
Refuting reports about a sharp rise in Covid-19 infections and deaths in Sohag, Megahid said only 414 patients are receiving care in the governorate’s hospitals, which still have 950 unoccupied beds in their different wards plus 70 empty intensive care
beds.
Only 18 of the governorate’s 53 ventilators are in use, Megahid said. Oxygen is also available in all the hospitals in Sohag, Megahid added, noting that the same hospitals receive continual oxygen supplies in coordination with the ministry’s Central Supply Operations Room.
Megahid said there were also enough stockpiles of personal protective equipment at the hospitals.
The Ministry of Health had sent urgent medical supplies to Sohag this week to increase the capacities of the hospitals as per instructions by Minister Hala Zayed, Megahid said.
He added that the minister also issued directives for increasing awareness among governorate residents about abiding by prevention measures.
The minister also increased the number of home isolation teams to 100 so that they can follow up the
conditions of patients with moderate to mild symptoms at home, he added.
